:
Grace of God Lutheran Church was founded by the people and pastor of Community Lutheran Church in Frankford, DE., in cooperation with the Delaware-Maryland Synod and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. For five summers prior to its naming, GOGLC was a preaching point for summer visitors and residents on the north shore of the Indian River Bay. Pastor John Barton and several members of Community Lutheran made the trek north each Sunday to offer Lutheran Worship in an area where there was no Lutheran presence. Worship was held in various locations, including the Indian Mission Methodist Church and even above a liquor store! Once a new church was approved for development by the ELCA, Pastor Judith Moller was appointed as mission developer. The name Grace of God Lutheran Church was chosen through prayer and study by the original nineteen members, and the first worship was held on November 28, 2005. We are now 135 members strong.
Grace of God worships at 10:00 am, in a community center, the Pelican Cove CHEER Center on Long Neck Road, in Millsboro, (Long Neck), Delaware. Worship is a spirited blend of styles with a Lutheran emphasis. Sunday School for children meets at 9:00 am on Sunday morning, there is a nursery available during worship. Adult education classes meet on Wednesday mornings at 10:00 am, at the Ocean Point Grill also located in the Pelican Cove Center. Evening classes are held at various locations.
Where Are We Going?
Our mission is to provide evidence of God's love to people in our area, through worship and outreach. To help accomplish this we have purchased land, which is held for us by the Mission investment Fund of the ELCA. In the future we plan to build our own building as a worship and outreach center. Until then we continue to grow, with the goal of 200 + members by 2010. Another goal is to become an incorporated ELCA congregation, also by the latter part of 2010.
